Genus: Ponthieva
Shadow Witch
Ponthieva is a genus of terrestrial (occasionally epiphytic or lithophytic) orchids containing around 30 species distributed in the southern United States and in Central and South America. These orchids can be distinguished by their prominently clawed petals, relatively small labellum, and the absence of a nectar spur. The leaves are often thin, the petals are fused at their base to the column, and the sepals and ovary are covered in thin hairs. While most grow in humid forests, some species attach to trees or rocks.
