Genus: Peristylus
Peristylus is a large genus within the orchid family found across much of eastern and southern Asia, Australia, and on many islands in the Pacific Ocean. Plants are terrestrial with erect stems and 2 or 3 tubular sheaths at the base. Leaves are smooth and may be basal, clustered midway along the stem or widely spaced. The inflorescence is a terminal raceme with many spirally arranged resupinate flowers. Petals are often connivent with the dorsal sepal forming a hood over the short, stout column. The labellum is spurred and usually 3-lobed.
