Genus: Calopogon
Grass Pink
Calopogon is a small genus of terrestrial orchids distributed across North America and into the northern Caribbean. These orchids produce numerous pink flowers (varying from pinkish white to magenta), and 1-3 grass-like leaves. Unlike most orchids, the Calopogons have non-resupinate flowers with the labellum positioned at the upper part of the flower. These flowers do not produce nectar but rely on deception to attract pollinators and mimic other flowers with pink petals and yellow stamens that grow in the same area. They generally grow in moist prairies, savannas, and bogs.
