Genus: Aspidogyne
Jug Orchid
Aspidogyne is a genus of primarily terrestrial orchids distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of the New World. A single species, formerly Platythelys querceticola, extends into the southeastern U.S. The creeping rhizomes are normally found in damp habitats and gives rise to an erect stem with slender leaves often marked by pale spots or veins. The inflorescence is a terminal raceme with few to many small resupinate flowers with a spur at the base.
